Project Overview
When New Jersey Brain and Spine—a nationally recognized, top-ranked neurosurgical practice—outgrew their previous office space, they engaged Kimmerle Group to design a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility in Paramus, NJ. The goal was to create a "bigger, better, and brighter" environment that reflected their commitment to cutting-edge, minimally invasive neurosurgical care while prioritizing a seamless, comforting patient experience.
Architectural & Clinical Design Strategy
Designing a 16,222-square-foot facility for one of the nation's elite neurosurgical groups required a meticulous balance of advanced clinical infrastructure and patient-centered hospitality. Our design team focused on creating an environment that supports an unparalleled multidisciplinary care team—including neurosurgeons, neurologists, and physiatrists—under one roof.
Key design and programmatic interventions included:
Optimized Clinical Workflows: We programmed the floor plan to ensure maximum efficiency for a high-volume, highly specialized staff. The layout minimizes travel distances between consultation rooms, diagnostic areas, and specialized treatment zones, reducing staff fatigue and improving patient throughput.
Sub-Specialty Care Zones: The facility was designed to accommodate a wide range of complex neurological sub-specialties. We integrated specialized clinical spaces tailored for the treatment of brain and spine tumors, movement disorders, neurovascular conditions, and pediatric neurosurgery.
Advanced Technological Integration: As a practice that prides itself on innovative, minimally invasive surgical approaches, the facility required robust IT and medical equipment infrastructure. We coordinated complex MEP systems to support advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies without compromising the aesthetic integrity of the space.
The Patient Experience: Recognizing that patients visiting NJBS are often dealing with complex, high-stress diagnoses, we prioritized a soothing, hospitality-driven environment. We maximized natural light, utilized calming material palettes, and designed clear, stress-free wayfinding from the moment a patient enters the suite.
The completed facility at 650 From Road represents the future of specialized outpatient care. By delivering a space that seamlessly blends high-tech clinical capabilities with a warm, accessible environment, Kimmerle Group helped New Jersey Brain and Spine expand their footprint and elevate the standard of neurosurgical care in northern New Jersey.
