Raritan Exposition Center

Edison, NJ

Involved Subsidiaries:

This project involved a 340,000 sf structure developed as the first phase of a three-phase master plan of over 1.0 million square feet of industrial space in Raritan Center, the preeminent industrial/distribution center in central New Jersey.

The project was later developed as the largest convention and exhibition center in New Jersey. It now hosts the Governor's ball, business conventions, and a variety of trade shows, among other events.

The building consists of steel frame structural systems with masonry and metal clad exteriors, which has proved to be a long-standing and durable approach to structures of this type.

Phase three of the master plan will break ground in 2007.

The accompanying illustrations depict the several architectural approaches to the building facade addressed in preliminary studies for the third phase building, including metal and masonry building skins and combinations of both. Several options stress a graphic approach to the use of these materials consistent with the overall approach taken in the first phase of building and later modified as the program proceeded.

Several of these architectural approaches have applicability for big box retail or high profile/high visibility industrial sites. They are intriguing examinations of the range of possibilities available in these various building technologies, materials and techniques.

Consistent with The Kimmerle Group's overall commitment to explore a wide range of possibilities in each project undertaken, this project provided the opportunity to expand our reinterpretation of the prototype facade studies to address new criteria and industry innovations.
