Morris County Imaging

Morris County, NJ

The design of a new radiology center in a medical office building. In a building with Neurology groups, a medical physical therapy center, and adjacent to the Morristown Hospital, this was a natural location for a specialized radiology center. The facility includes an MRI magnet and a PET CT (nuclear catscan facility). Incredibly, thru very careful planning, all the equipment and control rooms, pre-patient treatment area, lab space for the radioactive isotopes, linen rooms, staff and administrative areas, reading room, changing rooms, and ambulatory sized hallways fit into a 3200 sf footprint.

The physical requirements of this site were unique. Located over a covered parking level, not at grade, the structure had to be structurally reinforced with stainless steel beams. Retaining walls were constructed on an adjacent hill to create equipment pads for cooling units. Direct exterior access was also required by the state necessitating exterior doors and ramping. One particular exciting architectural characteristic of the space is having wood floors and glass windows at the equipment rooms, creating very non-institutional, pleasant, light filled patient spaces.

This is another example of an ongoing relationship with a client. This was the second project with this Doctor?s group, the first being a Neurological facility in the same building, and there is a third recently completed Pediatric Neurological facility as well.

It is exciting to work with a group of professionals who not only strive to grow their business, and use cutting edge technology, but who are interested in creating unique and high end facilties that attempt to create a sense of welcome and comfort to their patients, and trust us to work with them to that goal on successive projects.

This project was like a complex chess problem. It challenged us in terms of the physical infrastructure required and the size of the space to get all the program requirements in. Exactly the kind of project we thrive on and believe we excel at. We have the willingness, the creativity, and the tenacity to work at it until success.
